We attended the area conference of the National Science Teachers Association in Kansas City (December 3-5, 2015). We had the great opportunity to give a presentation about soil respiration. Soil science has been mostly focused on physical and chemical properties of the soil. In recent years, the biology of the soil has becoming a main subject of study.
The second soil health survey training for citizens was at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. Our host Joel Burken and his team did a great job in providing logistics for this training. Teachers and high schoolers came from Union, St. Clair and Crocker. They all drove about an hour to attend this training on a Friday night! Thank you all for participating.
The first training of citizens for the soil health survey project was on October 29, 2015 at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis. We had the participation of teachers, high school students and farmers. We introduced the participants to the Missouri EPSCoR, MO DIRT and citizen science projects.
